Welcome to the MNHS PTSO! Thank you for taking the time to visit us. I hope you will join us and become a part of a very special group here at McKinney North. As a parent of a high schooler, your involvement is as important as ever. I invite you to not only become a member of the PTSO, but to become an active participant. Our goal as a PTSO is to positively impact all students, staff, and families through various events, staff luncheons, and student programs.
PTSO Year in Review 2012-2013
So what did PTSO do all year? Even though we do not meet on a regular basis, the board and its members were active throughout the year contributing to various staff and student events and organizations. Our Treasurer’s report is available upon request but to recap for you, here is a list of some of the ways we spent the money from your membership, generous donations, fundraisers, and earnings from the Dawg Store:
McKinney North HS Digital Marquee donation$5,000.00
Staff Appreciation Lunches/Snacks $3,000.00
Paws for Reflection Courtyard $ 850.00
Project Graduation Donation $ 750.00
Senior Breakfast$ 300.00
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about any of these programs. PTSO’s goal is to try and enrich and impact as many staff and students of the McKinney North community as possible. Through your continued support, we can do just that.
Our Biggest Asset: The Volunteer!
Volunteering is the other essential ingredient to the success of the PTSO. We are so thankful to all of you who have assisted with staff appreciation, the Dawg Store, the Carnival, Curriculum Night, and other PTSO sponsored events.
The board sadly says good bye to two ladies who have spent several years as active parents, volunteers, and PTSO members. DeAnna Haynes served as our Treasurer for two years and has been an active PTSO member while her two daughters attended McKinney North. A faithful Dawg Store volunteer as well, we will miss DeAnna’s sweet smile and diligent record keeping! We also bid farewell to Lori Etter, who served on our board for two years as our Dawg Store Coordinator. This was not an easy job but Lori pulled it off with meticulous calculations and good old fashioned elbow grease! Lori kept our Dawg Store stocked with snacks and drinks, often shopping Sam’s Club as much as twice a week. Thank you, Lori! Your contribution to PTSO is very much appreciated!
Students are also encouraged to be involved. Since PTSO stresses the importance of volunteerism, North students can earn hours toward their Green Cord. It is an essential element when being considered for the PTSO scholarship given to two graduating seniors.
PTSO does not typically host a lot of fundraisers. Most of the money generated is through the Dawg Store. Open during lunch and after school, students and staff can purchase snacks, drinks, spirit wear, and school supplies. We may have some extra restaurant fundraisers. Ghengis Grill was very popular and not only do we earn easy money, but it’s a great way to meet with other North members over a delicious meal!
We can also earn a lot of easy cash just by doing what you already do: shop for groceries. PTSO has set up a program at Albertsons on Virginia, Kroger stores, and Tom Thumb stores to help earn money for PTSO every time you shop. More information can be found on our fundraising page.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 16th! Our Run for the Dawgs 5k has returned! Everyone from McKinney and surrounding communities are invited to participate. It is a family (and dog!) friendly event filled with fun, fellowship, and personal bests! We are already making plans for this awesome event so please contact the PTSO if would like to help out.
Purchasing a customized brick for the Paws for Reflection Courtyard is an ongoing fund raiser too. It’s a great way to permanently recognize your favorite student(s), sport, or club. Customized bricks start at $50.00. Please see the website for more information.
Whether it was through your membership, your donations, or your time, I thank each and every one of our members for your support this year. For those with graduating seniors and leaving the McKinney North HS family, we wish you well and give our best wishes to your graduate. For those returning, we hope to see you in the fall when our membership drive begins. Because of the busy nature of the typical high school family, PTSO does not meet very often but we welcome all of you and appreciate all that you have done to help make the PTSO one of the best groups to be involved with.
Don’t forget to check in on our website and on line store periodically! We also have a Facebook Page, “McKinney North Alumni Family and Friends” where you can post pictures and comments of all MNHS events and activities.
